FIS rules of conduct for cross-country skiers

  • Consideration for others
    • Every cross-country skier has to behave in such a way that no one else is endangered or damaged.
  • Signage, running direction and running technology
    • Markings, signs and running directions must be noted. On appropriately designated trails, only in the specified direction and technique can be run.
  • Choice of track and piste
    • On double and multiple tracks, you have to walk in the right lane. Cross-country skiers in groups have to run in the right track one after the other. In free running technology, you can walk on the piste to the right.
  • Overtake
    • may be overhauled to the right or left. The front runner is not obliged to avoid, but should let the overtaken* happen if possible.
  • Against traffic
    • During encounters, each has to be avoided to the right. The cross-country skier has priority.
  • Stock tour
    • Near other runners, the sticks are to be borne as close as possible to the body.
  • Adaptation of speed to conditions
    • Cross-country skiers must adapt to their own skills, terrain conditions, traffic density and visibility, especially on tailings, speed and behaviour. A sufficient safety distance to/to the front runner must always be maintained. In emergencies, one should drop in a controlled manner to avoid a collision.
  • Keep tracks and slopes free
    • Anyone who stops or falls must leave the trail/slope as soon as possible.
  • Assistance
    • In the event of accidents, everyone is obliged to provide immediate assistance.
  • Mandatory identification
    • Any witness and/or party, responsible or not, must provide his personal details in the event of an accident.
Here, free time issimply free time.
