Winter hiking paradise

Pertisau is not only one of the most beautiful spots on Lake Achensee but also the gateway to Europe's largest nature reserve - the Karwendel mountains. Pertisau is the ideal starting point for short or long hikes.

Winter hiking at Lake Achensee is an unforgettable experience! The biting cold, the crunching snow under your boots and the clear winter air that colours your cheeks and nose red are all part of this magical adventure. The region offers more than 150 kilometres of cleared winter hiking trails that will whisk you away to snow-covered landscapes. Here are some of the highlights:

  1. Karwendel valleys: Hike through the gently ascending Karwendel valleys near Pertisau. After about an hour you will reach the Alpengasthof Pletzachalm or the Alpengasthaus Falzturn. You should plan at least two hours for a visit to the Gramai Alm.

  2. Lakeside paths: The paths along the lake in Pertisau, Maurach and Achenkirch offer breathtaking views of Lake Achensee. Here you can enjoy the winter idyll.

  3. Circular hiking trail in Steinberg am Rofan: This dreamy circular hiking trail promises an absolute picture-book idyll. And best of all: it is even illuminated after dark!

Tyrolean delicacies and cosy spots await you in the mountain huts and lodges along the routes. Be enchanted by the glorious winter landscape!

Winter hiking in the Achensee region offers a variety of routes for all hiking enthusiasts.

If you like it easy and flat, the Falzthurnthal route from Pertisau via the Falzthurn Alm towards the Gramai Alm is an excellent choice. From the toll station at the entrance to the Karwendel valley (cross-country skiing centre), at the end of the car park, follow the tarmac road with turn-offs to the left towards Falzthurnalm. Here you can take a break and enjoy the Tyrolean hospitality. From there, a natural path leads across the mountain fields to the Gramai Alm. You return via the same route. Plan at least four hours for the outward and return journey. The hut offers delicious Tyrolean delicacies and a cosy place to rest.

If you want to gain a few metres in altitude and enjoy a fabulous view over Pertisau, opt for the medium-difficulty tour to the Feilalm.

From the Pertisau cross-country skiing centre at the entrance to the Karwendel valley, follow the winter hiking trail past the Pletzachalm and continue in the direction of the Gern Alm. Turn left and follow the forest road to the Feilalm. The return journey follows the same route.
