Cycling & (e-)mountain biking

Uphill, downhill, along the lake

The region around Lake Achensee offers ideal conditions for cyclists, mountain bikers and e-bikers. Flat and leisurely or challenging and high up - 250 km of bike routes of all levels of difficulty are well signposted and lead you to your individual biking pleasure. Here is a small selection of our favourite tours.

Just the right tour for everyone

Families and leisure cyclists

Flatter paths along the lakeshore or into one of the Karwendel valleys are ideal for families or relaxed leisure cyclists. The cycle path along Lake Achensee is mostly flat from Pertisau via Maurach to Achenkirch and back, with Lake Achensee inviting you to take a short break and cool off along the way. The tours into the valleys of the Karwendel Nature Park are easy to manage and lead to several cosy mountain huts such as Pletzalam, Gernalm, Falzthurnalm or Gramaialm. While the kids romp around on the playgrounds, parents can enjoy the magnificent views of the mountain panorama and Tyrolean specialities.

MTB beginners

There are beautiful routes for beginners in mountain biking. From Pertisau, you can reach the Feilkopf (1562 m) in a good two hours and around 600 metres uphill and enjoy a fantastic view over Pertisau from the summit cross.

The new MTB route around the Zwölferkopf (1491 m) is also very suitable. The 12.4-kilometre tour takes you along a newly built forest trail, which offers a wonderful view of the lake and takes you over five hairpin bends to just below the mountain station of the Karwendel mountain railway. The Alpengasthaus Karwendel or the Bärenbadalm are great places to stop for refreshments before returning to Pertisau via the Tristenautal valley. It takes two hours to climb 535 metres in altitude. The route can be travelled in both directions.

Passionate mountain bikers

There are also challenging and sweat-inducing tours on Lake Achensee. For example, in Achenkirch around the Unnutz it takes around three hours. There are 27 kilometres and a good 600 metres of altitude to conquer. If you still have the energy, extend the tour with the 17-kilometre Schmalzklausen circuit and add another 360 metres in altitude. To do this, take a sharp left shortly after the Schönjochalm and then turn onto the Schmalzklausen circuit parallel to the Steinberger Ache.
